| Well guys and gals, After calling every body shop in northern virginia, i found one (mr spoiler) who would be willing to take the job. The quote, for just paint (no prep or disassembly): $800-$1000 minimum. Add the $150 to $200 per way for towing out to manassas from arlington, and we're looking at around $1500 minimum. Sorry, but to me, this is simply too much money. Looks like the only option i have is painting it myself. At this point, I've got the option of building a paint booth in my garage, using tarps, a blower, and air filters, or renting the paint booth at the auto hobby shop at quantico marine corps base (post? not sure, i'm AF). The cost for the paint booth is $10 per hour, or $50 per day. I don't have a trailer, so I'd have to have it towed there and then back, adding at least $300 to the cost of doing it at quantico. It seems to me that urethane paint (basecoat/clearcoat) is substantially better in terms of hardness and solvent resistance than acrylic. Are there any benefits of going with acrylic? I'm going to go with compressed air/spray gun. Any recommendations, keeping in mind that I'm going to use this gun only for this project and then never again, and that it is an engine bay. Also, with this paint, I have to wait in between primer and basecoat and clearcoat, right? Should I paint on three separate days? Should I rattle can the primer at home, sand it, and then just do basecoat and clearcoat in the paint booth? This sucks, i really wish i could pay someone to do this, i have NO experience whatsoever with this, and have a feeling that it is going to come out looking like ass.
